The primary site for the fellowship is Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center (MH-TMC). MH-TMC operates the busiest LifeFlight service in the country, covering a 150-mile radius with a population of 5,500,000 people, and is one of the busiest Level 1 trauma centers in the country.
One of the main goals of the fellowship is to build expertise in pelvic and acetabular reconstruction. Each fellow will spend 8 months at MH-TMC with Drs. Milan Sen, Andrew Burgess, Tim Achor, Mark Prasarn, John Munz, and Josh Gary. Additional exposure is provided to complex periarticular fractures and long bone fractures, nonunions, and malunions.
Each fellow will also spend 4 months at Texas Orthopaedic Hospital (TOH) with Dr. Mark Brinker. Dr. Brinker's referral based practice focuses on nonunions, malunions, and Illizarov technique. He treats approximately 150 nonunions, 25 infected nonunions, and 40 malunions annually, and performs 75 Illizarov cases per year.
In addition to clinical and research duties, the fellow will participate in daily trauma conference, weekly teaching conferences, and Grand Rounds.
